Sensory Kids is a specialised multi-sensory service to enhance the development of children and adults with sensory needs developed by Kathryn and Mary Connor.
We are based just outside Broughshane within the vicinity of the lovely ‘Award Winning Village of Broughshane in a beautiful rural location overlooking Slemish Mountain.
This year we have two new additional programmes. The first is called, ‘Sensory Wellness in School’. We will go into schools for 1 academic year with a view to doing 2, 1 hour sessions per week on sensory wellness for 35 weeks supporting children with Autism, Asperger’s, Learning Difficulties through sensory play. The above is supported by a grant, enabling us to provide the above and more.
The second programme is called, ‘Kit for Kids’ programme. Designed by Kathryn and delivered by Kathryn to explain to children in schools ‘what is autism’ in their classroom. The kit is centred on an illustrated booklet called “What’s Up with Alex?” This colourful, child friendly work books tell the story about a new boy in school with autism named Alex, through the eyes of a mainstream peer. The story teaches children that those with autism may think differently or need some help, but all pupils are of equal worth and should be treated as such. This program will increase awareness of autism among pupils in P1 to P7 with a greater knowledge of autism, the children will learn to see the person first rather than focus on a classmate’s disability.
