Termoncanice Primary School are privileged to have Mr Leo McCloskey leading our school. Mr McCloskey wears a variety of hats alongside his role of acting Principal; he is certainly willing to go above and beyond on every occasion- even stepping into the role of lollipop man when needed! He has taught a range of classes from Primary 4 to Primary 7, bringing his unique sense of fun and energy to every lesson, assembly and Whole School Event. His enthusiasm for learning is as clearly evident today as it was coming in as a fresh faced, beginning teacher, 31 years ago.
Mr McCloskey is a keen sports fan (and Limavady’s number 1 Manchester United fan.) We are fortunate that he brings his love of sport into our school; coaching both Soccer and Gaelic teams. Mr McCloskey initiated our very own annual World Cup and All Ireland competitions which have brought great enjoyment to our pupils and their parents alike. His biggest accolade to date was winning the Northern Ireland Schools’ Cup in 1995. Mr McCloskey values highly the importance of outdoor learning and he was the driving force in securing our excellent outside play facilities which are utilised to the full by not only our pupils, but the Extended School Community also.
Family life, Faith and Community are the essence of Mr McCloskey’s values and rationale for learning. As a founder of HOPE Summer Camp, he contributes significantly to the formation of the young people in the Parish of Limavady.
Termoncanice have almost 500 pupils enrolled and Mr McCloskey knows each and every one by name. More importantly, he celebrates their individuality and knows what motivates and inspires them to be the best that they can possibly be. His favourite part of the day is meeting and greeting every child in the morning. His positive energy and bright cheery smile sets every child up to have a good day ahead at Termoncanice Primary School.
