I have taught in Australia and am now very settled in a permanent post in St Joseph’s PS, Crossgar, where I have been appointed with many roles including Senior Teacher, Child Protection Officer, SENCO and Assessment Coordinator. For me, teaching is an extremely tough and tiring vocation. Keeping up with the ever growing demands of the job and all the diverse needs of the pupils who come into our care is hard work. But I will always remember the words my uncle, a former principal, told me, ‘teaching kids to count is fine but teaching them what counts is gold’. So every day in my task to stretch and challenge my pupils academically, I always take time to nourish and grow their little minds with self-belief, confidence and appreciation of all their own individual, unique talents. I strive to create a happy, caring classroom, one where all little minds feel safe and supported to grow and learn at their own pace.
